Our Herd

Our herd is made up of four amazing horses, who vary in age, size, colour, breed, and definitely personality! Please get in contact if you would like to meet them, and to see what they might have to teach you. In the meantime, below are some photos and a little bit of information about each herd member.

Troy

Troy has been a therapy horse for the longest out of our herd- nearly a whole decade! Although he has had much experience in helping others, it has taken him a while to open up and learn that he is important too.

Tali

Tali is the smallest of our herd, but maybe one of the bravest. He has had some obstacles to overcome, and likes to have fun when he feels comfortable with those around him.

Cyra

Cyra is a new member of our herd, she is learning about how to slow down and take time to breathe. She is already very thoughtful, and has a gentle nature.

Cleo

Cleo is our newest and youngest herd member. She is always looking at the world around her with curiosity and wonder as she sees and learns new things.

Timmy

Last but definitely not least, visitors to Equine Elements will be warmly welcomed by our dog Timmy, a friendly whippet who loves cuddles and attention.

Timmy also sometimes assists in therapy sessions, he is just as intuitive as our larger four legged friends, and has a wonderful calm nature, as well as being energetic and playful!

Our Horses’ Lifestyle

The Equine Elements horses are kept in a herd, so they can feel safe, be sociable, and thrive together. They are out on a track system field during the day and at night, to allow optimum movement and natural behaviours. Their environment is interesting and enriching, and the horses are also provided with extra enrichment activities such as food puzzles, a variety of snacks, walks out, and more.

We keep a careful eye on how many sessions a horse takes part in, and have a limit on how much a horse can do. Our horses are always free to choose to leave a session if they feel they need to.

Our herd have time to rest and just be horses, they have one to two days off each week where we don’t have any sessions running, and they get to relax together.

Our horses also have time and different activities to help them process after sessions have taken place, as much of our work is in depth and emotional, the horses can sometimes need help to release after taking part in a session.

We interact with the Equine Elements herd in an ethical way that allows them to choose, and doesn’t cause them any fear, pain, or discomfort. This includes all interactions, such as daily handling and care, sessions, riding, and training.

Our horses are ridden bitless and kept barefoot.

Our horses have a species appropriate diet, with forage available 24/7, as well as supplements where needed.

The herd have regular health checks by various professionals, including hoof trimming, worming, tack fitting, dental work, bodywork treatments, vaccinations, and general health checks.
